      HYSTERECTOMY TECHNIQUES

There are two methods used for hysterectomy; laparoscopic (closed) and open surgery method. According to the patient’s situation and the disorders, the surgery method will be determined by the surgeon.
In the laparoscopic method, known as closed, 3 or 4 small incisions are made on the abdomen and a camera instrument called a laparoscope is inserted into the body. With surgical materials entering through small holes, the uterus and uterine tissue are made capable of being separated from the body, and the separated parts are usually removed from the vagina. After the uterus is completely removed, the incisions are stitched and this method is a less invasive procedure than open surgery.
The open surgery method generally involves making an incision from the navel down to the abdomen, or an incision similar to a cesarean section. The uterus and uterine structures are accessed through the incision and the procedure is performed to remove them from the body. The uterus and uterine structures, which are ready to be separated from the body, are taken out through the incision made in the abdomen. After the uterus is removed, the incision is stitched and the surgery is completed.
