WHAT IS POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)?

Trauma is defined as a distressing set of events that threaten the psychological wellbeing of a person in terms of causing an intense reaction of fear, helplessness or horror. Abnormal emotional state and deterioration of mental health experienced by individuals due to trauma can be accepted to be normal up to 1 month.
If recurrent memories, behaviours of avoidance, hyperarousal, nightmares and anxiety persist for more than 1 month in individuals due to any pervasive sense of trauma, it could set the ground for the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a major mental state disorder with a single known cause.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder treatment programs are planned in coordination with specialist who are specially-trained in their fields on one to one, individually set-up sessions that are customized to patient’s treatment requirements. The lenght of the treatment varies in terms of specific conditions and properties of the ailment the individuals are experiencing, the standard duration of the trreatment packages ranges between two to three weeks. How do we treat PSDT?

Our team of specialists employ various treatment protocols that incorporate treatment modalities from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Prolonged Exposure and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to help individuals to lessen the symptoms of PTSD by enabling them to confront their fears that shackles them.
Cognitive Therapy is based on the principle that our behaviours and reaction to stimuli is based on how we perceive and mentally review things. It does help with creating awareness about the fact that negative thought patterns could stimulate negative behaviours. Cognitive Reprocessing Therapy (CRT) does help individuals to reframe a traumatic experience by guiding them to create a new understanding of trauma in terms of instilling the idea of reversing the negative impact of the trauma.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a type of pyschotheraphy model where the goal is to manage a traumatic experience or a depression by helping to change the entrenched thought patterns and perceptions that are associated with them. It is known to be one of the most well-structured and utilized type of psychotherapy. CBT purports that the people experiencing mental problems that are caused by traumatic experience can learn more efficient ways to cope with these problems, which would help them to ease the symptoms of their traumatic experience and pave the way for a healthier mental and emotional state.

We have set up 3 sessions of CBT per week for a 3 week- PTSD package. All of our sessions are conducted by leading phychotherapists who are specially trained in CBT with a wealth of experience in treating the symptoms of PSTD.

Cognitive Reprocessing Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) was  one of the first breakthrough evidence-based treatments for PTSD that was originally developed for women survivors of rape and child abuse in the late 1980s.  It has proven to be highly effective for treating the symptoms of PTSD. Depression, feeling of shame and guilt that were all associated with the traumatic experience was seen to be significantly subdued with CTP. Patient’s ability to  reconstruct the traumatic experience with the identification of the stumbling blocks around which beliefs and perceptions of safety, trust, power, self-esteem, guilt and shame revolve, does eventually allow the patient to construe the traumatic experience in a completely different light and take the rein of his/her faulty thoughts.

There are 12 sessios of CPT that are spread over a 3 weeks PTSD package, with 3 sessios of treatment being organized per week. Theraphies are all conducted by our clinical therapist with a special training on PTSD.
